There are three main documents that LASSN need to see if you are using your car whilst volunteering:

  1. Driving License.
  2. Car Insurance: with proof that you have contacted your insurer to let them know that you are using your car for volunteering.  This can be in letter or e mail format.
  3. MOT: We can now obtain this on your behalf using the Government Website/Check if vehicle is taxed section.

If you ever transport clients, staff, volunteers whilst volunteering, even when staff do not claim expenses for this, your insurance policy must include business use.

If you may transport any passengers whilst volunteering, your Volunteer Manager will carry out a risk assessment prior to any volunteering activities.

If you transport a client’s child as an additional passenger in your car, you must fill out an additional Model Car Risk Assessment.   Please refer to the Child Car Seat question on our Q&A Board.

For further information on car usage, please refer to the USE OF VEHICLE POLICY which can be found in Section 2E of the VOLUNTEER INFORMATION PACK.

If you need to update your car documents or have any questions regarding the use of vehicles, please e-mail [email protected].  Thank you.
