The Volunteer Training Programme for 2016

Here’s our annual programme of training for LASSN volunteers, in addition to the Induction Training received by all volunteers. All sessions will take place at Ebor Court, unless we’ve said otherwise

If you ever feel like the person you know needs more support, but you’re not sure who else can help.

Wednesday March 16th 17:30 – 19:00

Advocacy Skills Training – Saturday 23rd April  09:45 – 16:00 – this has been rescheduled from the original date in February

 An engaging one day workshop enabling us to share and build skills and knowledge around using advocacy as part of our role as befrienders.

Together we will creatively explore:

  • What is advocacy?
  • What values and skills underpin effective advocacy?
  • When is it appropriate and
  • How should I use this approach as part of my befriending role?
  • Where can my befriendee and I go for further information and support?

Although this training is primarily aimed at Befriending Volunteers, all LASSN volunteers are welcome

Mental Health refresher: how to help someone find extra support

If you’re not sure how or where to get emotional support for the person you know.

Thursday September 15th 17:30 – 19:00

Work with survivors of trafficking and trauma

If you want to get better at helping someone recovering from traumatic experiences.

Thursday October 26th 17:30 – 19:00

Finding work: assisting refugees

If the refugee you know wants to find work – and you want to be supportive.
