  • Salary:  £21,500 – £24,000 pro rata (£12,783 – £14,270 actual) depending on experience

The Hosting Development Worker will

  • support the development of peer-support networks for households in Leeds who provide accommodation to refugees and asylum-seeking households
  • contribute to the development and upkeep of online signposting resources – eg helpinleeds.com and newtoleeds.org  
  • use an asset based community development approach, and promote LASSN’s key objectives to support, empower and integrate refugees and asylum seekers into life in Leeds.

The initial focus of this work will be on hosts supporting resettled Ukrainian Households through the Homes for Ukraine Scheme – but will also involve work with existing LASSN hosts and volunteers.

An Asset Based approach will mean the Hosting Development worker will not focus on direct support to individual households, or to fix problems. Instead, they will empower the hosts (and their guests) to find workable solutions themselves, or with the assistance of other people/agencies.

The person we appoint will

  • have at least 12 months’ experience of supporting volunteers,
  • have experience of developing and supporting inclusive groups, using an asset based community development approach
  • be confident in explaining and maintaining clear boundaries – in particular what support this role can and cannot offer.
  • enjoy working flexibly in a small, friendly team.
  • share LASSN’s commitment to ensuring asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants at risk of harm are safe, respected, supported and empowered to rebuild their lives free of persecution;
  • have a commitment to helping ordinary people find ways of making Leeds a friendlier, more welcoming city.

Their can-do approach, and ability to complete tasks to agreed deadlines will play a key role in the smooth running of a team that values diversity, kindness, and high standards of support.
