We would love you to do some fundraising for LASSN – anything from a few pounds to a few hundred pounds – no matter how small the donation, your fundraising would mean a great deal to us.
Fundraising Ideas
Idea #1: Fundraise whilst you’re at work
Andy a Leeds Locksmith from from lemonlocksmith.co.uk supported LASSN by donating all his income from late-night lock-outs for 2 weeks.
He contacted us after he’d been called out to secure a property where Asylum Seekers were living, and the Police told him about LASSN.
We helped promote his fundraising on LASSN’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and sent him a supply of #solidaritybadges and flyers for him to give out to customers.
Idea #2: Arrange a gig

Dads Against the Machine arranged a #payasyoufeel gig at the Brudenell Social Club. DATM invited us to join them at the gig, and we took a banner, some merch (stickers, badges) and some donation buckets. We had a fantastic evening and they raised £600.
Idea #3: Fundraise whilst keeping fit

Lamees (6), Bella (4), Maple (7), and Laya (3) were moved by the TV pictures of Afghan people fleeing for their lives – and wanted to help. They decided to raise money by running, walking and cycling 280km.
As their Go Fund Me page says “This distance was chosen as it is the distance in kilometres from Kabul to the nearest border crossing of Torkham into Pakistan where a large influx of refugees have travelled overland to reach safety.”
In the end they managed to collect an enormous £1360 in sponsorship.
Here they are – clearly exhausted – showing off their certificates of achievement and appreciation.
Thank you as well to Charlie (4), Sophie (5), and Amelia (7) who aren’t pictured – but who were also part of this outstanding humanitarian effort.
Idea #4: Organise an office raffle

Each year, staff at Migration Yorkshire organise an office fundraising event at Christmas. Last year they held an “Auction of promises” where colleagues bid for one of these items. They raised a total of £353.21

How your fundraising helps LASSN
Mr Win came to see us the other day. He and his wife (and three children) flew in from Hong Kong on Monday, submitted an asylum claim at the airport, and then booked into an AirB&B in Leeds.
He came to our offices on the Friday to:
- find medical help – he said his family had Covid. He did not know where to buy paracetamol or face masks
- ask for help to complete his asylum papers
- to ask if there was anyone who could help connect him to other people from Hong Kong
Mr Win did not speak any English and none of the team speak Cantonese.
That afternoon, we helped Mr Win to connect with the Hong Kong resettlement scheme and to find medical, legal and housing support. We helped him to connect to the local Chinese Christian Church and the local Chinese Community Association and to find some food.
All of this was done by a single member of the team and Google translate.
We don’t turn people like Mr Win away – even if he says he has Covid and isn’t wearing a mask – even though we don’t provide legal support, food or medicine. We help because it’s the right thing and what you should expect of us.
But although we’re lucky enough to get project funding for things like English at Home, we don’t get any grant funding to resource this kind of work.
People like you – who donate what they can, when they can – enable us to continue to offer this kind of help to Mr Win and his family.
Thank you for your ongoing support of LASSN’s work.
