What can Ukrainian Hosting Support (UHS) help with?

We can help you to

  • meet other households who are also hosting Ukrainian refugees
  • share your experiences of what works, what doesn’t, and to learn from the experience of other hosting households.
  • connect directly with people from different parts of Leeds City Council (eg Housing, Benefits, Social Services) who will be able to help you and your Guests
  • find extra support and information to help with your hosting
  • access to LASSN’s online resources and newsletters

Who works for UHS?

  • Jo Carter – Volunteers Manager for Grace Hosting

What support is available for my Guest?

We have been asked by Leeds City Council to limit our support to Hosting Households. Our aim is to help make hosting an enjoyable and positive experience by helping hosts to meet and connect with one another.

Specific support for Ukrainian guests can be found on our online resource pages.

Peer Support

No-one knows what it’s like to host someone until they actually do it. LASSN has been supporting hosts for almost 20 years, and Hosts tell us Host Groups are one of the most effective ways of resolving difficulties, sharing successes and learning from the experiences of others. Anna, the development worker used to be a Host herself.

“Being part of a supportive network made the whole experience of hosting more enjoyable. I felt part of a joint initiative and having people I could share my thoughts with was comforting”

Does UHS offer 1:1 support?

We’re sorry, we don’t provide 1:1 support.

Leeds City Council have asked LASSN to facilitate peer support networks, and online resources – to reach as many people as possible.

There are about 400 hosting households in Leeds, and the development worker is only part time (21 hours a week) so 1:1 support is almost impossible.
