We are looking for people to volunteer as Befrienders, Hosts, Hosting Coordinators and English at Home tutors.
More than 300 people volunteered with LASSN in 2015/16.
In exchange for your time and enthusiasm, we offer high quality training and support, and the chance to make a real difference to someone’s life.
Due to the nature of our work, we ask that our volunteers are willing to commit to volunteering with us for at least 6 months.
If you don’t think you can make this commitment, then you may find something more suitable via the Leeds Volunteer Centre.
If you have a particular interest in volunteering with asylum seekers and refugees, a comprehensive list of volunteering opportunities can be found at http://helpinleeds.com
Our Volunteering Programme has been awarded the Leeds Volunteer Centre Kitemark
Have a look on the individual project pages to see the kind of work involved.
How can you become a volunteer?
If you are thinking about becoming a volunteer, then please complete our online application form and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
All LASSN volunteers must complete three training sessions before they can start volunteering
Session 1: Is an introduction to LASSN – which explains who we are, what we do, our vision, values and ways of working: Monday 8th May 6-9pm
Session 2: Is an overview of the experience of seeking asylum – which explains the journey many refugees make, how people end up in the UK and what they can expect when they get here Monday 15th May 6-9pm or Tuesday 23rd May 1-4pm
Session 3 is specific to the type of volunteering you wish to do.
- Befriending: Monday 22nd May 10-2pm (lunch provided)
- Grace Hosting: Thursday 1st June 1-5pm
- English at Home: Monday 5th June 10-4pm (lunch provided)
